Hallway hardwood floor repaired and refinished in Union County, NJ
Hardwood floor repair · Linden, NJ & Union County

Hardwood floor repair in Union County, finished so the fix disappears.

Most hardwood floor damage is local: a few boards under a leaky dishwasher, a strip where a wall came out, a black pet stain in one corner. You don't need a new floor. You need those boards replaced and the whole thing refinished together, anywhere in Linden, Union County or North Jersey.

Before: worn hardwood hallway with patched boards and a dull gray finish After: the same hallway with the patch blended in, sanded and refinished
Before After

Hallway board repair. Drag the handle.

Real repair, our own phone

Patched boards woven in, then the whole floor refinished.

New boards of the same species and width were laced into the old hallway floor, staggered so there's no straight seam. Then the whole run was sanded flat, stained and finished, so the patch reads as part of the floor.

What we repair

The damage we see most, and fix without replacing the floor.

Water damage

From appliances, radiators, plants or roof leaks.

Pet stains

Urine stains that have gone black into the wood.

Patching

Where a wall, closet, vent or old fireplace hearth was removed.

Damaged boards

Cracked, split, cupped or loose boards.

Squeaks and movement

Boards that shift or squeak underfoot.

Wide gaps

Between boards that have opened up over the years.

Burns, gouges and dents

Deep marks that sanding alone won't remove.

Bad work from another installer

Uneven boards, wrong direction, unlevel transitions.

How a repair is done

Cut out, lace in, sand and finish as one floor.

  1. Cut out the damage

Damaged boards are cut out cleanly along the grain.

  2. Lace in new boards

Same species and width, staggered into the surrounding floor so there's no straight seam.

  3. Sand flat

The repaired area, or usually the whole room, is sanded level.

  4. Match the color

Stain matched to the existing floor, or the whole room refinished in a new one.

  5. Finish coats

Finish goes on top and the repair reads as part of the floor.

For a repair to truly disappear, the whole room usually needs to be refinished. Spot-finishing a patch in the middle of a floor almost always shows. We'll be upfront about which option makes sense for your floor and budget.

Good to know

Old wood, matching stock, and the right time to repair.

Old wood, matching species

Older homes in Union and Essex counties often have narrow 2¼" red oak strip or old-growth pine. We source matching stock for these so the repair isn't a different width or grain.

Repair after a water event, not before

Wood needs to dry out fully, sometimes several weeks, before it's repaired and refinished, or the new boards will cup. We can inspect early, tell you what to expect, and schedule the work once moisture readings come down.

If the damage is local and the rest of the floor has thickness left, repair and refinish costs a fraction of replacement. If boards are badly rotted or the floor has been sanded too thin, we'll say so and quote a new installation.
